“Well … dead, actually. I had rather a nasty letter from his father, accusing you of murder. That one came over breakfast; didn’t think to bring it. Did you mean to kill him?”
The Custom of the Army by Diana Gabaldon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Lord John and the Custom of the Army by Diana Galbadon. Read in 2016 on 8/24 and 9/11, and again on 11/11. I liked it. I recommend it to Outlander Series fans, science fictional history fans, and fans of fiction with a homosexual hero.
We start at a society party attended by Lord John. It is a theme party where an entertainer with an electric eel shocks members of the party for the amusement of the guest. Lord John is manipulated into being the guest at the front of the line who is to grasp the eel while holding hands with another guest. Continue reading “Custom of the Army”
The Arisians know that he is incorruptible, a paragon of bravery and virtue, so they have chosen him to be the first entity to wear the “Lens of Civilization”.
First Lensman by E.E. “Doc” Smith
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
First Lensman by Doc E.E. Smith. Read and simultaneously listened to in 2016 on 6/1 to page 71, on 6/22 to page 107, on 7/7 to page 211 and completed it on 7/16. I liked it. I recommend it to classic science fiction fans. This review includes the Books in Motion audiobook read by Reed McColm, who performed with excellence. I prefer doing both read and listen, old “learning trick” from college. Plus it allows you to do some things without the story stopping while you live life.
“First Lensman” is a story that follows incorruptible heroic space adventurer Virgil Samms as he attempts to establish a military or police force to protect the civilization from those who would rather have chaos. Continue reading “First Lensman by E.E. “Doc” Smith”
Well, lets see if fate is better to me this year than previous years!
I wanted anyone interested in this blog to know that there is a lot more coming.
I’m 14 book reports behind schedule. I’ll get to them and to the ones that will build up before I get to those 14.
I’ve currently been spending a lot of my time helping a friend with their creative work. At first I refused the request, then had a epiphany that led me to want to do this work. I’m only partially finished after a month.
I have once again, at the last minute, signed up for NANOWRIMO 2016. I don’t know how you find authors on NANOWRIMO but I use the same “handle” pretty much everywhere. “aegiswiz”. So if you are doing that and looking for me, maybe that information will help. I bring this up because that will make posting much of anything in November extremely challenging.
Who knows, I may take up drinking coffee again and discard all that wasted time sleeping…
Thanks for your interest and check back. The upcoming book reports are First Lensman, Lord John and the Custom of the Army, Dark Edge Prequel, The Daylight War, Confessor, Mesenger’s Legacy, Galactic Patrol, The Fifth Season (A Hugo Winner), Jilo, The Scottish Prisoner, The Omen Machine, The Partner, Open Minds and The Girl on the Train. Look forward to writing about them.
